Homework
Daily Reading
Your child should read for at least 20 minutes every day. It does not matter if you read to your child, your child reads to you, or you read together - it is all beneficial. The most important thing is to make it an enjoyable daily habit. Discuss what you read together and ask your child to retell the stories to you.

Monthly Poem
We will be doing poem recitations throughout the year. Your child is expected to memorize and recite a poem in front of the class. The poems will be sent home during the first week of the month. Please help your child select one of the poems and practice it every day. The recital will be held during the last school week of the month.

Math
A math practice packet for the month will usually be sent home during the first week of the month. This packet is optional but recommended to provide practice and reinforcement of our classwork.

First graders need to be able to add fluently within 10.

It is also recommended that your child use Matific and Xtra Math online resources at least 2-3 times each week for practice and reinforcement of our classwork. Login/access information for both sites was sent home in September. Please contact Mrs. Kratky if you need to request this information again or need any other assistance with this.

Snap Words
First graders are expected to know 140 snap words, which are words they can read quickly and fluently.
